Willene Bass

November 24, 1913 — February 7, 2014

Willene Bass, 100, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014, at Lakehaven Nursing Home after a short illness.

She was born November 24, 1913 in Dupont, a daughter of the late John Thomas and Bernice Smith Bramlett. A graduate of Valdosta High School with the Class of 1931, she was a beautician for seventy years, retiring from Eva's Beauty Shop at the age of 83 due to her health. Mrs. Bass was a member of Lee Street Baptist Church and continued her membership at Crossroads Baptist Church. While at Lee Street she taught Sunday School and was a very active choir member. At Crossroads she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class, the Keenagers and visited shut-ins. She was also a member of Woodmen of the World and was a past member of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Bass was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed being a homemaker and cooking for her family, specializing in peanut brittle.

She is survived by one daughter, Bettye B. Holland of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, Luther and Monie Bass of Colquitt; four grandchildren, Jeff Holland of Jacksonville, FL, Tim and Sharon Holland of Valdosta, Holly and Cory Thomas of Colquitt, and Bruce Holland Bennett of Valdosta; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sue Clark of Orange Park, FL; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, Otis Bass; three brothers, Clarence, Emmett and Joe Bramlett; and two sisters, Margaret Faircloth and Florence Flowers.

The Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Dr. Ken Alford and Rev. Cory Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Crossroads Baptist Church Building Fund, 3001 Country Club Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602.
