Walter William Yates, 71, of Valdosta, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born on January 28, 1938 in Valdosta to the late Truman Dodd Yates and Olga Pittman Pafford. Mr. Yates was owner and operator of Yates Trucking Company, served in the United States Navy, was a disabled veteran and was a member of Lee Street Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Hampton Yates of Valdosta, three daughters and two sons in law, Mona and Skip Mounts of Macon, Laurie Scruggs and Elonda and Dan Holcomb of Valdosta, four granddaughters, Christy Grosch and her husband, Greg, Erica Gaskins and her husband, Mark, Lindsey Scarborough and Ashli Scruggs, five great grandchildren, Grant Grosch, Caroline Grosch, Hampton Grosch, Lael Gaskins and Ephraim Gaskins, one sister, Linda Pafford Bowers and her husband, Richard of Savannah and one brother, W. A. (Billy) Pafford of Valdosta. Mr. Yates is preceded in death by one son, William Robert (Bobby) Yates.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 6, 2009 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
