W. E. Raines

W. E. Raines, 94, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died on Friday, December 15, 2006, at Lake Haven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Born in Lakeland on June 7, 1912, he was the son of the late Henry Edward and Liddie “Loddie” Williams Raines. Mr. Raines worked for more than 30 years at the Valdosta Plywood Mill and then for the Department of Transportation for over 10 years. He attended the Church of God. Mr. Raines greatly loved to fish.

Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Lounell Raines of Valdosta; sons, Carl Raines of Valdosta, Billy Raines of Macon; daughter, Betty Jean Albridge of Jasper; sisters, Thelma Marshall of Valdosta, Ophelia Bailey of Hahira; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earnest Raines and a brother in law, Jock Bailey.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Friendship Cemetery. Reverend Leonard Harnage will officiate.
