Virginia Westberry Prince

November 19, 1931 — November 9, 2008

VIRGINIA WESTBERRY PRINCE, 76, of Lake Park, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2008, at her home. She was born on November 19, 1931 in Echols County to the late Wallace Osgood and Amanda Corbett Westberry.

She graduated from Georgia's Women's College with an Associates Degree in 1951, Valdosta State College with a Bachelor's Degree in 1957, again in 1975 with a Master's Degree, and in 1982 with an Education Specialist Degree. For 41 years she was an Educator, with 14 years at Echols County Schools, 27 years at Lowndes County Schools, and the last 10 years as Principal at Lake Park Elementary School.

Mrs. Prince was a member of Bethel Church of God where she had taught Sunday school and was YPE Treasurer. She was also a member of Monday Morning Bible Study, Delta Kappa Gamma, Echols County Historical Society, Valdosta Lowndes Retired Educators, and a former member of AAUW.

She is survived by her husband, Owen Cranford Prince; one son, Wallace Own Prince; two daughters, Lisa Virginia Prince and Tawanna Ann Prince; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth "B.J." Prince; and a grandson, Benjamin Owen Prince, all of Lake Park. She is also survived by four sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws, Willene Westberry of Lehigh Acres, FL, Carolyn Jean Brady of Valdosta, Vernon and Jeanne Prince of Baconton, and Thomas A. and Elke Westberry of Live Oak, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; first cousin, Jessie Mae Martin; and caring, loving friends too numerous to name. She was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Ava Nell and Robert C. "Bobby" Strickland, and by a niece and nephew, Ava Melinda and Benjamin C. Strickland.

Services will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, November 11, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Tatum and Rev. Daryl Pate officiating. Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made in her memory to the Valdosta-Lowndes Retired Educators Association.
