Virgil Pilkington, Jr.

Virgil Pilkington, Jr., 92, of Valdosta went home to be with the Lord, Jesus on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. He was born in West Blocton, Alabama on July 14, 1920 to the late Virgil, Sr. and Leila Elizabeth Champion Pilkington. Mr. Pilkington served in the United States Navy during World War II and was retired civilian aviation metal smith with Moody Air Force Base and Cherry Point Marine Air Corp Station in North Carolina. Mr. Pilkington was an active member of the Northside Baptist Church until his health declined. He faithfully served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. He enjoyed spending time studying his Bible which brought him much joy. Mr. Pilkington loved the outdoors and taught his family to appreciate God's beautiful world.

Survivors include his two daughters and sons in law, Ann Pilkington Brazeal and Buddy Brazeal of Valdosta, Marcia Pilkington Wise and Randy Wise of McDonough, GA., granddaughters and grandsons in law, Laura Brazeal Odell and David Odell of Valdosta, Meredith Brazeal Moon and Patrick Moon, great grandchildren, Alaina Moon, Garrett Moon, Evan Odell and Annellisa Odell, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Ethel Martin Pilkington.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, December 28, 2012 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Willis and Rev. Douglas M. Reddick officiating. Burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
