THOMAS E. “T.J.” JOHNSON, 70, of Barney, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Langdale Hospice House after a short illness.
T.J. was born September 5, 1938 in Lowndes County, a son of the late Charlie S. and Julie Nash Johnson, and had served in the U.S. Army. For many years, he was a residential and commercial painter. He attended Morven Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Brady of Barney; one son, Thomas E. Johnson II and wife Suchita of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Zele and Jiya Johnson; one brother, Charles L. “Possum” Johnson and wife Marlene; one niece, Julie Johnson; one nephew, Charlie Johnson, all of Valdosta; two aunts, Lou Nelle Lightsey of Valdosta, and Rachel Terry of Adel; one uncle, Julian Nash of Atlanta area; and cousin, Robert Mathis of Valdosta. He was predeceased by a son at birth.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 15, 2009 at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Mr. Jerry Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at 2623 Yates Road, Barney, Brooks County (775-2421). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in T.J.’s memory to Hospice of South Georgia, Langdale Hospice House, P.O. Box 1727, Valdosta, GA 31603-1727.
