Susan Coppage Havird

Susan Coppage Havird passed peacefully to her heavenly Home on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 surrounded by family and close friends at their home.
A graveside service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with her long-time friend, BJ Greene Funk officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Susan is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ed Havird, along with their two grandsons, raised as their sons, Shane and Brett Canady, and a granddaughter, Jessica Lee Walker, five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; step daughter, Holly Canady of Rincon; brother, Stan Coppage, Jr., and his wife Joyce; nieces and nephews, Kyle and Maria Coppage, Mark and Honey Coppage, Claire Edmonds, and Clif Coppage all of Valdosta; sister in law, Carol Winn and family of Chicago, Illinois; and a dear friend, Ina Federal of Ponte Vedra, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stan, Sr. and Evelyn Coppage.
Susan grew up in Valdosta and graduated from Valdosta High School and from Valdosta State College.
While in high school, Susan was a majorette for the Valdosta High Wildcats. After college, Susan became a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines for 25 years. She flew all over the world, often taking her mother with her for special vacations. At the end of that career, she went to Kennesaw College and received a master’s in education. She was an excellent math teacher.
Susan faced challenges in her life with determination and optimism. She and her brother took care of her mother at the end of her life. Susan loved her family and did not hesitate to put her life on hold while she took care of someone she loved. Her care-giving role reached out to friends, neighbors and even strangers. Taking care of others was one of her finest attributes.
A strong Christian, Susan looked forward to being set free from a body that had served her well but had begun to fail her. She bravely accepted these last days and had no doubt that she would be going to heaven. She was ready to go Home.
