Stephen Matthew Cain

April 23, 1970 — September 26, 2018

Stephen Matthew Cain, 48, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Langdale Hospice House after a lengthy illness. He was born in Macon, GA on April 23, 1970 to the late Lois “Patsy” Cain and Atlee Cain. Stephen graduated from Valdosta High School in 1988 where he played football for the Valdosta Wildcats. He was in the United States Navy for 6 years where he proudly served on the USS George Washington. After leaving the Navy he went to work for Lockheed Martin for several years in the Virginia area. Later he met and married Julie and moved back to his hometown of Valdosta where he worked for South Georgia Regional Development Commission. He was a devoted member of Sardis Baptist Church. His hobbies included watching his beloved Tennessee Volunteer Football team, golf, NASCAR, and supporting his daughters even though they cheered for Lowndes, his Wildcats rivals.
Stephen is survived by his wife Julie Davis Cain, of Valdosta, his children Heather and Ashley Strickland, his father Atlee Cain, his parents in law Jimmy and Carolyn Davis, his brother Mark Cain (Wendy), his sister Karen Cain Taylor (Don), his brother in law Jimmy Davis, Jr., his sister in law Connie Sandlin (Don), his nieces and nephews Aaron Cain (Rebecca), Stacy Cain (Lee), Shelton Cain, Celeste Taylor, Kristi Taylor, Tabitha Barber (Jason), Paisley Barber, Jim Davis-Johnson (Rickey), Jessie Pruitt (Michael), Hudson Pruitt, Avery Pruitt. He was preceded in death by his mother, and his brother Derrick Cain. Special thanks to his doctor, Dr. Matthew Kosboth, at the V.A. Medical Center in Gainesville, FL, he went above and beyond to help him in any way that he could, he was a wonderful doctor and friend, to Langdale Hospice House, to all of his neighbors and friends, to all the people who took him to Gainesville for weekly doctor’s appointments, and to the many friends from his childhood and high school who stayed in his life.
A funeral service for Stephen will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Luke officiating. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery which is located right beside the church. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta.
