Silvia Mercedes Calderon

November 30, 1940 — December 26, 2020

Silvia Mercedes Calderon at the age of 80 years old, transitioned to be with our Lord on December 26, 2020. She was born on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico in a town named Mayaguez. She was the daughter of Mercedes Rosado and Marcos Rosado. At the age of 8 years old, Silvia relocated with her family to New York City where she resided on East 118th Street. There, she immersed herself in the arts. She studied ballet and in high school won 1st place in a drawing contest.
Mrs. Calderon was a wife and mother. During her lifetime, she was a homemaker, a valued member of her children’s school’s PTA and a den mother for her cub scouts’ troupe. There she met and fell in love with her late husband Joseph Calderon. She resided in New York for most of her life until her family relocated to Valdosta, Georgia.
Mrs. Calderon moved to Valdosta, Georgia on September 8, 2006. She loved nature and loved Valdosta. She was inspired to capture its natural beauty and wildlife in her acrylic paintings. She was an accomplished artist. In addition to her artistic talents, Mrs. Calderon loved to cook especially traditional Puerto Rican meals. She was a fantastic cook. She enjoyed cooking for her family and teaching them how to cook these traditional meals. Silvia was very proud of her Puerto Rican culture and that was evident in her paintings as well. She enjoyed laughing and speaking with family. Mrs. Calderon was a devoted catholic. As the matriarch of her family; she will truly be missed.
Mrs. Calderon is survived by her 5 children; Le’Diana Harrison of Valdosta, Ga; Alfred Hobot (estranged) of Far Rockaway, NY; Tammy Hobot of Hempstead, NY; Catherine Calderon of Valdosta, GA; Paul Calderon of Valdosta, GA; 6 grandchildren; Tiffany Harrison of Brooklyn, NY; Dennis White of Hempstead, NY; Ebonie White-Anselm of the Bronx, NY; Jasmine Wilkerson of Brandon, Fl; Mecca Wango of Hempstead, NY; Jasmine Pace of Brooklyn, NY; 11 great grandchildren; 2 siblings; Ileana Hobot of New York, NY, Cynthia LaMont of Columbus, GA; One brother in law Jackie LaMont of Columbus, GA; 3 nieces and one nephew Derek Mitchell of New York, NY.
As a result of the pandemic and in accordance with practicing safety measures, there will be no formal funeral services. A private memorial for the family & close friends will be determined at a later date.
