Sgt. Albert Duell Crews (US Army retired)

On August 28, 2012 Sgt. Albert Duell Crews received his final discharge papers. Another soldier has gone home. Sgt. Crews was born on February 8, 1930 in Brantley County, GA to Albert and Rosa Lee Crews. Sgt. Crews retired after serving 23 years in the United States Army where he served as a Green Beret in the Vietnam War. During his service he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal (1st OLC), the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal 7 times. Upon retirement from the Army he served with the Valdosta State College Public Safety Department as a Sergeant for 13 years.

He leaves in bereavement his wife of 28 years, Jean Portier Crews of Valdosta, four sons and three daughters in law, Ray D. Crews of Sneeds, FL, Keneth R. and Deborah Crews of Sanford, NC, Darwin G. and Kelly Crews of Valdosta, Randal and Carol Crews of Valdosta, one daughter and son in law, Cindy K. and Mike Crosby of Cartersville, GA, three step children, Al Fuller and his wife Karen of Cartersville, GA, Jo Ann and husband, Reverend Dave Bult, Jr. of Mullins, SC and Jack Fuller of Valdosta, three sisters and two brothers in law, Fay and C. V. Moore of Hoboken, GA, Nancy and R. C. Thrift of Hoboken and Annelle Harper of Jesup, GA, eleven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sgt. Crews is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alan and Patrick and one sister, Leona.

He was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. At his request he will be cremated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Open Bible Baptist Church building fund, 3992 North Oak Street Extension, Valdosta, GA or to Grace Hospice, 101 Northside Drive, Valdosta, GA.
