Sarah Frances Griffis Mullins, 78, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Presbyterian Home in Quitman following a brief illness. Born in Valdosta to the late E.E. & Nell Goss Pipkin, she had been a life long resident of this area. Mrs. Mullins was a graduate of Valdosta High School and was very active in her school days having participated in basketball, the band, and even kicking extra points for Wright Bazemore. Her adventurous side introduced her to riding motorcycles and flying airplanes. She worked for many years at Pipkin’s Motors as the secretary and receptionist. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was devoted to her family.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter in law, Rusty Griffis and Tommy & Deborah Griffis, all of Valdosta; four grandchildren and their spouses, Kristopher (Anna) Griffis of Barwick, Kimberly Griffis (James) Stahl of Edwards AFB, CA, Griff Griffis and Betsy Ann (Bill) Hamlett all of Quitman; great grandchildren, Logan Griffis and Clayton Griffis, both of Valdosta, and Emily Hastings of Barwick. Also surviving are a brother & sister in law, Emmett E. & Jean Pipkin of Valdosta, and a sister Mary Katherine Denney of Snellville, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mullins was preceded in death by her first husband, Emory L Griffis, a brother and a sister in law, Clyde and Opel Pipkin.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mullins will be held today, Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church in Lake Park. Dr. Henry Cannington will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
