Samuel Eugene Merchant, Sr.

Samuel Eugene Merchant, Sr., 60 of Valdosta, died on Monday, April 16, 2007 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born in 1947 to Katie Nix Hand and the late Lonnie Merchant in Hazelhurst, GA. Mr. Merchant retired from Bellsouth and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are his son, Samuel E. Merchant, Jr. of Lake Park; daughter, Christie Merchant of Valdosta, grandchildren, Katelyn Allen, Brandy Whitfied, Candace Barden; great granddaughter, McKallie Barden; brothers, Curtis Hand, Gordon F. Hand, William G. Hand, Dennis Hand, Tommy Merchant; sisters, Deborah Gill, Lillian K. Beasley, Debbie Merchant and Diane Merchant.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2007 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Chaplain Jim Schappaugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Hazelhurst City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
