Roy Vernon Carter

Roy Vernon Carter, 62, of Quitman, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 25, 2015, at his home.

He was born May 25, 1953 in Valdosta, a son of the late Coney Lee and Marene Eve Hutchinson Carter. He was a member of Welcome Hill Church of Christ, and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Carter has worked in the Maintenance Department at the Presbyterian Home for over twenty-five years, and was very well respected by all who knew him. He always made his daily rounds to the Nurses' stations to be sure they had hot coffee. He would track down his daughter, Angie, no matter what floor she was working on, and would pick up his oldest granddaughter, Maddie, from daycare at the nursing home to go around and show her off on his golf cart; he proudly gave each of his grandchildren a tour of the nursing home to show them off.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Barbara Jernigan Carter; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angie Carter Webb and Matt, and Leslie Carter Parker and Greg; one son and companion, Jason Vernon Carter and Stephanie, all of Quitman; six beautiful granddaughters and one handsome grandson, Madison Grace Stripling, Annalise Michelle Webb, Hailey Marene Atkins, Kasey Lee Atkins, Josie Gail Carter, Stefan Griffin and Sissy Griffin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby Carter and Jeanette of Quitman, and Raymond Carter and Lisa of Berlin; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome W. Carter and Melvin Claude Carter.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Carter will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2015, at Welcome Hill Church of Christ, with Mr. Jim Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
