Ross Carter

Ross Carter, 85, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Crestwood Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Born in Valdosta on June 10, 1923, he was the son of the late Ross C. and Irene Pittman Carter. Mr. Carter was retired form Railroad Express Agency and had been a Sergeant with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Myrtle Carter of Valdosta; a son, Jimmy W. and Vivian Carter of Macon; grandchildren, Richard Kevin Carter of Bellville, Florida, David R. (Dawn) Carter of Charlotte, North Carolina, step- granddaughters, Marlene (Phil) Dalton and Jan (Jeff) Lewis of Macon; great grandchildren, Danielle, Deanna and Dawson Ross Carter of Charlotte, North Carolina; step- great grandchildren, Dillon Lewis and Blake Wilson of Macon; a sister, Juanell Rentz of Valdosta.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mr. Keith Olbricht will officiate. Burial will follow at Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Georgia Christian Children's Home.
