Ronald Hogan

Ronald Hogan, 72, of Valdosta, died suddenly on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at South Georgia Medical Center. Ron was born in Jacksonville, FL on May 22, 1948 to the late Grover Adrin Hogan and Jeanette Herring Hogan. When he was very young, the family moved to Waycross where Ron attended Waycross Schools and graduated from Waycross High in 1966 where he played on the baseball team. He then came to Valdosta State College to study Pre-Pharmacy, and then went on to Athens and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Pharmacy. Returning to Valdosta, Ron served an internship with Charlie Barnes at Barnes Drug Store. Then in 1976, he went out on his own and started Hogan’s Pharmacy. He operated Hogan’s for nearly 40 years before his retirement. It was in these early days when Ron started coaching ball teams, even before his kids could play. Over the years, Ron coached hundreds of young kids beginning at the Boys & Girls Clubs, but also at the YMCA and for Valdosta/ Lowndes County Parks and Recreation. He coached kids for decades and most recently helping his sons coach his grandchildren. He had also currently been serving on the Board of Trustees at the Boy’s & Girl’s Club of Valdosta. Ron also participated in starting FCA at Valdosta Junior High School and has continued to be a supporter of FCA through the years. Ron was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, serving as a home church pastor for New Covenant Church in the 1990’s, and currently attending First United Methodist Church. He was also an avid golfer and had become a part time farmer after retirement at the family farm in Ashburn.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Susan Pate Hogan, of Valdosta; three sons, Dr. Bennett Pate Hogan, and his wife, Leigh Ann Hogan; Samuel Ross Hogan, and his wife Casey Crutchfield Hogan; and Paul Adrin Hogan and his wife Jennifer Rouzie Hogan, of Clemson, SC. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Haley Hogan of Columbia, SC, Pate Hogan, Catherine Claire Hogan and Emory Hogan, all of Valdosta, Rouz Hogan and Jackson Hogan, both of Clemson, SC; his sister, Debbie & Mark Faulkner of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Ron will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Anthony McPhail will officiate. A private family committal will occur at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Carson McLane Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. It is also requested that friends wear a mask and practice social distancing at all services for Ron.
