Robert Richard Backensto

Robert Richard Backensto, 68, of Valdosta died Saturday, July 4, 2020 at his home. He was born on January 18, 1952 in Portland, Oregon and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Robert was a Lutheran and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in Vietnam for his country that he loved. He was currently employed at South Georgia Pecan as the Evening Plant Manager. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Robert loved riding in the wind on his Harley.
Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Jami Fryslie Backensto of Valdosta; his children, Melissa Dawn McGee of Valdosta, Matthew James (Tracey) Backensto of Gainesville, FL, Kenna Lori Chinn of Greensboro, NC, Jamison Bryson (Ashley) Chinn of DeLand, FL; his grandchildren, Olivia McGee, Brianna Backensto, Gregg Spivey, Thomas Chinn, Theodore Chinn, Khloe Chinn; his great grandchild, Asher Brooks Harris; his brothers and sister in law, Terry Backensto, Eric (Dru) Backensto; his sister, Lynda Backensto Caldwell; sister in law, Marilyn Backensto; his stepmother, Margie Jackman and children; his sisters in law and brother in law, Nancy McGee, Penny and Jerry Inscore, Debra Baker, Tammy Vitolo; numerous nieces, nephews and extended blended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine and James Backensto and Don Jackman, parents in law, James Fryslie, Laurel Fryslie and a brother in law, James Fryslie, II.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 2-4 pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
