Robert L. "Bob" Pennington, 76, of Hahira died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on April 22, 1933 in Logan, West Virginia. Mr. Pennington served in the Korean Conflict and arrived at Moody Air Force Base in May, 1954. He married the former Shirley Cone of Thomas County in February, 1955 and lived in Valdosta until 1992 when he moved to Hahira. Mr. Pennington was a sales representative with Kraft Foods for thirty three years and attended Georgia Military College. He was a member of the Charity Baptist Church and St. John the Baptist Masonic Lodge. Mr. Pennington was an avid private airplane pilot and enjoyed this with several good friends including the Rev. Douglas M. Reddick.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley Pennington of Hahira, two sons and a daughter in law, Lee and Karen Pennington of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Craig Pennington of Hahira, three grandchildren, Ryan Pennington of Statesboro, Ga., Seth Pennington, Erin Pennington Zapata and her husband, Jason all of Lawrenceville, GA. and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Bill and sisters, Delores, Carol, Cheryl, Mary, one predeceased sister, Virginia and their families including a special niece, Martha Cone of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Alan Pennington in March, 1998.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Graham and Rev. Douglas M. Reddick officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Hahira. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
