Robert Julian Wise, Jr.

April 3, 1941 — July 20, 2023

Robert Julian Wise Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2023, at his home in Statenville, GA. He was born on April 3, 1941, in Cook County, and lived a fulfilling life of 82 years. Robert was the son of Robert J. Wise, Sr, and Mary Lou Lasseter Wise.

Robert dedicated his working years to the Clyattville Paper Mill, where he worked as an electrician for an impressive 39 years. His strong work ethic earned him the respect of his colleagues and supervisors.

Outside of work, Robert's life was enriched by his loving wife, Mildred, whom he had been married to for 57 years. Together, they enjoyed many hobbies and interests. Robert loved spending time in nature, indulging his passion for hunting and fishing, and finding joy in the serene beauty of the mountains. He also had a keen eye for hidden treasures, frequenting flea markets and yard sales.

One of Robert's greatest pleasures was attending tractor shows, where he could marvel at the machinery of the past. Moreover, his faith led him to serve as the song leader at Sardis Baptist Church for 12 years, following many years of being a devoted member of Statenville Baptist Church.

A heart for family, and spending time on the farm brought him contentment. He embraced fun and laughter as a Shrine clown, actively participating in the Hasan Temple of Albany for 47 years. Additionally, he was a Mason at the Alapaha Lodge, contributing to his community and forming strong bonds with fellow Masons.

Another cherished role Robert played was that of Santa Claus. For three decades, he brought joy and smiles to many events, making the holiday season even more magical for those around him.

Robert leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will forever be cherished by his survivors, his devoted wife, Mildred of Statenville, GA; his son, Jay Wise, of Statenville, GA; and his daughter, Lynn Bennett, and son-in-law, Tim Bennett, of Mayday, GA. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Derric (Missy) Fielding and Justin (Renee) Fielding of Valdosta, GA. And his great grandchildren, Addyson Fielding, Ashlyn Fielding, Caleb Fielding, Gage Fielding, and McKinsley Fielding, who brought much happiness into his life.

Robert is also survived by his brother, Jerry Wise, and sister, Dee Wise, and his sister-in-law, Sandra Rutland, and brother-in-law, Bert Rutland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, who laid the foundation for the kind and compassionate person he became.

A funeral service will be held at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, July 24th, 2023, at 3 p.m. A visitation will take place at the McLane Lakewood Chapel, starting one hour before the service. The service will be officiated by Brother Garvie Nichols Jr. and Brother Wayne Boykin. Following the service, Robert will be laid to rest at Statenville Cemetery.
