Robert B. Keeney

BOB KEENEY, 81, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009, at South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, GA. Mr. Keeney, a native of Des Moines, moved to Valdosta in July 2009.

He was born March 26, 1928 in Des Moines, a son of the late Basil and Thelma White Keeney. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the Occupation Forces in Japan. Following his discharge he attended Drake University and graduated from Iowa State University, and served in the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge, with the rank of First Lieutenant, he returned to Des Moines and began his career with Eagle Iron Works as an Engineer and Regional Sales Manager. His work enabled him to travel throughout the United States, parts of Europe, Australia, and Puerto Rico. He retired in 1991 after 42 years with Eagle.

Bob was a member of First Christian Church, Des Moines, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He had a passion for sailing and flying, and loved trains and computers.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Barbara Keeney of Valdosta, GA, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and wife Valorie Keeney of Minot, ND; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lora Keeney of Cannon Falls, MN, and Sue and Tom Van Nortwick of Valdosta, GA; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Hill of Des Moines; one niece and two nephews.
