Richard Lee Rockey

February 16, 1947 — May 6, 2023

Richard Lee Rockey, known to his friends as "Dick," passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023, at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, GA, at the age of 76. Dick was born on February 16, 1947, in Salem, Indiana, to Harold and Ruth Rockey. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Phil Rockey.

Dick is survived by his wife, Dena Rockey, of Valdosta; his son, Chris Rockey (Jessica) of Orem, Utah; his sister, Donna Bramlett (Tracy) of Nashville, GA; and his grandchildren Madison Keene, Trevor Rockey, Kyndall Rockey, and Amelia Rockey.

Dick graduated from Dan McCarty High School in Ft. Pierce, FL, before attending Valdosta State University, where he furthered his education. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. Dick had worked at Doctor’s Lab as Director of Sales and Marketing for over 15 years. He was a dedicated broadcast announcer for Valdosta State Blazer Football for 20 years and VSU baseball for 30 years. Dick coached for many years at YMCA Youth League Football and Baseball. He was passionate about sports and loved bringing the games to life for his listeners. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Lohmeyer officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the VSU Foundation-Athletics, 1500 N Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA 31698, Messiah Lutheran Church, 500 Baytree Road, Valdosta, GA, or Hospice of South Georgia, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602, in honor of Dick’s Memory.
