RAYMOND RICHARD FABER, 79, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009, at South Georgia Medical Center.

He was born November 16, 1929 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Raymond Rockford and Bessie Whetherholt Faber. He graduated from Dunbar High School, WV, and received his Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from West Virginia State University. During the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Army with the Engineering Mapping Department, stationed at Panama Canal. Mr. Faber had been employed for 39 years in the Engineering Department of Union Carbide in Charleston, WV, and later in Woodbine, GA, where he retired.

Mr. Faber was a family man, who was an intelligent, laid back and easy going person. He was an avid reader, enjoyed studying maps, sports, animals and listening to music.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sharon Branam Faber; a daughter, Angie Faber; a son, Rocky Faber, all of Valdosta; one brother, Joe and wife Pat Faber of Johnson City, TN; one sister, Jeanie and husband Rick Farley of Nitro, WV. He is also survived by three brother-in-laws, Jim and wife Sally Branam of Macon, Darrell and wife Sandy Branam of Valdosta, and Duane and wife Vickie Branam of Milledgeville; one sister-in-law, Sheila Branam of Valdosta, all who loved and enjoyed the many years shared with Richard and will deeply miss and keep him in their hearts forever. Special nephews and nieces include: Dickie and Bedar Farley of Poca, WV, Joshua Branam of Atlanta, Steve and Linda Raines of Green Castle, IN, Connie and Tom Brown of Crosslanes, WV, PattyJoe and Dean Nixon of Johnson City, TN, LoriAnn and Dave Leonard of Johnson City, TN, Monica and Ted Peeples of Macon, Hiliary Branam of Macon, Stephanie Branam of Valdosta, Martha and Mike Pace of Charlotte, NC, Betsey and Bruce Rutledge of Hurricane, WV, JeanAnn and John Shannon of Hurricane, WV, Judy and Tom Hardt of Poca, WV, and Linda and Greg McGrew of Melbourne, FL. Love to all the friends of Angie and Rocky who we watched grow up, Dad loved you all. His lifelong friends, Bill and Jane Keen, and Charlie and Gloria Gardner of Dunbar, WV, and Roy Keeny of Shelby, NC, who shared many years of special memories and Love for one another. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Dot and Tug Raines of WV.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald, with Pastor Brant Pickard officiating. His family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the graveside on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
