Ralph Edward Guarino

November 6, 1929 — August 15, 2016

Ralph Edward Guarino, Sr., 86, of Valdosta died on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Holly Hill Nursing Home. He was born on November 6, 1929 in Lebanon, New Hampshire to the late Anthony and Genevieve Picardi Guarino and has been a resident of Valdosta since 1973. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the United Sates Air Force and also retired from Valdosta High School where he served as the A/V director. He was a volunteer with South Georgia Medical Center driving the golf carts that transported visitors around the campus. He also worked for a short time with Valdosta State University in the A/V department, volunteered with Break Bread, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Italian-American club. Mr. Guarino was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Myra Guarino of Valdosta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Maria and Frank Schaer, and Gina and Joey Grundy all of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Jr., and Deirdre Guarino of Easley, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Bounds of Buffalo, New York, Michael Bounds of St. Paul, Minnesota, Jody Grundy of Valdosta, Evan Guarino and Emerson Guarino both of Easley, South Carolina; a brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Rita Guarino of Keene, New Hampshire; two sisters, Lucy Guarino of Burlington, Vermont, and Margaret Viola of Sommersworth, New Hampshire; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose "Dolly" Leger and Marian Carr.

Services for Ralph Edward Guarino, Sr. will be held at 12 noon on Friday, August 19, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Brian LaBurt officiating. The burial will take place at a later date and time in Conyers, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening at the Carson McLane Funeral Home with a Rosary service beginning at 6 p.m. and visitation to follow until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Sister Nuala for the St. Francis Thrift Shop.
