Rachael Parks Wainer

Rachael Parks Wainer, 89, of Valdosta died Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Hospice Atlanta following a lengthy illness. She was born on December 17, 1922 in Hartwell, Georgia to the late Marshall and Maude Parks. Mrs. Wainer grew up in Valdosta and attended Valdosta State College (South Georgia Womens College) and Louisiana State University, where she majored in Speech and Drama. She worked at Eastern Airlines in Atlanta before returning to Valdosta. On March 19, 1950 she was united in marriage to Alex M. Wainer.

She subsequently attended Valdosta State College where she took courses in Art and took post-graduate courses in Art at Florida State University. Mrs. Wainer served on the board of the Valdosta Entertainment Association and was the first person from South Georgia to serve on the Georgia Commission of Arts. She was an active member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her three sons and daughters in law, Max and Georgia Wainer of Alpharetta, GA, Alex and Judith Wainer of West Palm Beach, FL, James and Eiko Wainer of Cary, NC, her three grandchildren, Alex of Atlanta, Michelle of Cary, NC and Benjamin of West Palm Beach, FL., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Wainer, her sister, Frances Wirick and her brother, Dr. Marshall Parks.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, December 15, 2012 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. John McGowan and Rev. Glenn Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
