R. J. Thornton

R. J. THORNTON, 80, of Echols County died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Echols County on April 5, 1925 to the late Oscar and Annie Mathis Thornton and was a lifelong resident of Echols County. Mr. Thornton was a retired logger with Sandlin Logging Company and attended Sardis Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Idona Thornton of Echols County, two sons and daughters in law, Jerry and Linda Thornton and Keith and Jackie Thornton all of Lake Park, three daughters and sons in law, Dona and Wilson Crosby, Edna and Donald Carter, Carolyn and Jim Harnage all of Lake Park, two brothers and sisters in law, Albert and Claira Thornton of Lake Park and Willie and Nancy Thornton of Warner Robins, 16-grandchildren, 10-grandchildren in law, 19-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Randal Thornton, Raymond Thornton and Wilson Thornton and a sisters, Lilly Mae Thornton.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at Sardis Baptist Church with Brother Edgar Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the Carter Cemetery. Mr. Thornton will be carried to his home on Tuesday at 769 Sardis Church Road, Lake Park and will remain there until service time.
