Petty Officer First Class Joshua Thomas Newton

Petty Officer First Class Joshua Thomas Newton, 28, of Quitman, GA died Monday, August 17, 2020. He was born in Valdosta on February 26, 1992 and had lived in this area all of his life. Joshua was currently serving in the United States Navy stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was an honor graduate of Lowndes High School in 2010 and had many friends near and far. He was recognized as Sailor of the Quarter and had received many other awards in the Navy. He served five years on the USS Jason Dunham. Joshua loved hiking, kayaking and traveling and had a passion for all sports.
Survivors include his parents, John and Teresa (Jones) Newton of Quitman, his brother and sister in law, Wesley and Marilyn Newton of Gainesville, GA; his paternal grandparents, John and Margaret Newton of Millen, GA; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Jack and Carolyn Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 4pm, Friday, August 28, 2020 at Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Dwight Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in the Wayfare Cemetery.
