Penny Louise Smith

Penny Smith, 61, of Valdosta, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013, at Langdale Hospice House.

She was born February 23, 1952 in Niles, Ohio, a daughter of the late Kenneth Barnes and Patricia Moran Barnes. Penny was very family oriented, she was proud of her sons' honorable service in the U.S. military and she loved her grandkids. She was a very caring, down to earth person, putting others before herself and worked with a great attitude; she was everybody's "rock". Penny enjoyed the dirt track racing community, loved being in her yard, traveling, beaches, and lighthouses.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel Benton of Perry, FL, and Nathan Benton of Wilmington, NC; two granddaughters, Emilee Benton and Ashlann Roberts; her fiancé, Russell Brown, Sr. of Valdosta; Russell's children, Russell Brown, Jr. and fiancé Melissa Atkins of Lake Park, Terry Luke of Ohio, and Teresa Brown of Ocala, FL; Russell's grandchildren, two of which were very special to Penny, Raylen Brown and Austin Brown; and two sisters, Linda Jane and husband Howard of Baytown, TX, and Laurie Barnes of Niles, OH. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Edna Barnes; and a sister, Wendy Sadler of Perry, FL.

A memorial service for Penny will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013, at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Pastor Thomas Thigpen officiating.
