Odel B. Smith

Odel B. Smith, 93, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at her residence following a short illness. She was born on September 27, 1923 in Naylor, Georgia to the late Clance and Anabel Rewis Blanton and has been a resident of this area all her life. She was a retired secretary with the Norfolk Southern Railway Corporation and was a member of the Railroad Club. Mrs. Smith was a devoted and lifelong member of West End Presbyterian Church. She loved to travel, spend Christmas, Thanksgiving, and all the time that she could with her family. She also loved playing cards, and sitting on her swing in her garden. Mrs. Smith was an avid reader and loved watching T.V. She was dearly loved by all who knew her.
Survivors include nieces and nephews and their spouses, Edwin and Susanne Nickell of Covington, Marsha and Jerrell Votaw of Warrensburg, Missouri, Leah Lynch, Dorothy Nickell, and Vikki Nickell all of Valdosta, David and Jackie Blanton of Gray, Georgia, Jake and Priscilla Blanton of Statenville, Danny and Tonya Tyson of Macon, Mike Blanton of Statenville, Mary DeLoach of Navasota, Texas, Beth and Rick Vickers of Dixie, Katrina and Vince Nash of Valdosta; a sister-in-law, Eloise Blanton; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Jackson Smith, Jr., her brothers, Ernie Blanton and Clarence Blanton, her sister, Vera Nickell, and two nephews, Berry Blanton and Terry Blanton
Services for Odel B. Smith will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. John Akers officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to West End Presbyterian Church, The American Cancer Society of the charity of one's choice.
