Nona Colson Clayton

January 1, 1926 — April 21, 2007

Nona Colson Clayton, 80, of Lake Park, died at her home on Saturday April 21, 2007. Born in Manatee, Florida in 1926, she was the daughter of the late John F. Sr., and Lola Carter Colson. Mrs. Clayton was a member of the Lake Park United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and Woodman of the World. She retired from Langdale Forestry. Mrs. Clayton was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of Forrest Street United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and loved working the children’s nursery. Mrs. Clayton went on mission trips to Mexico and lived her strong Christian faith.

Survivors are her daughters and a son in law, Carol and John Gavin of Lake Park, Karen Aube of Valdosta; son and daughter in law, Stephen and Trish Clayton of Lake Park; granddaughters and their spouses, Dana Gavin Foster and David Foster; Tina and Kris Fitton, Michelle and Dwayne Culpepper, Suzanne and Richard Harvey; great grandchildren, Celeste Gaskins, Austin Hamilton, Dustin Hamilton, Bryceson Harvey, Ethan Harvey, Marit Foster (due in June to Dana and David); sister, Helen Staten of Lake City, Florida, brother and sister in law, John Ellis and Betty Colson of Butler, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Clayton will be missed by many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Cecil Clayton, sister, Loretta Clayton, half brothers, John Frank Colson, Jr., George Washington Colson, Flynn Harris Colson, Carlos Wesley Colson and Turner Colson; half sisters, Lizzie C. Burch, Annie Maude Colson and Ola Belle Clayton.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at 11 a.m. at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park. Reverend Elvin East, Reverend Michael P. Lyons and Reverend Sam Vernon will officiate. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lakewood on Monday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice or to Lake Park United Methodist Church building fund.
