Nell Shiver Cothron, 86, of Valdosta passed away on Saturday April 4, 2009 at Holly Hill Nursing Home. Born in Brooks County Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Shack Hiram and Minnie Lee Ballard Shiver. Mrs. Cothron was a homemaker and a member of Redland Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cothron is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Earl (Sonny), Jr. and Margie Cothron, Mitchell Sr. and Karen Cothron, Wayne Nelson Cothron Sr., all of Clyattville; grandchildren, Angela (Jimmy) Noles of Lake Park, Alisha (Paul) McDonald of Clyattville, Mitch (Laura) Cothron , Kim (Coy) Fussell all of Lake Park, Wayne Cothron. Jr., and Jessica Cothron, both of Pearson, Georgia; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in law, George Cothron; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Nelly Dasher, Maxine Cothron, Hilda Shiver, Henrette Courson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Jackson, Sr., daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Libby) Cothron, sisters, Fanny Barrett, Louise Arnold, Mildred Cothron; brothers, Eddie Shiver, Ewell Shiver, Broches Shiver, George Shiver, Charles Shiver, Earl Shiver and brother-in-law, Carroll Peace.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 7, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Ray Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Redland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Redland Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
