Monsignor Marvin J. Lefrois

Monsignor Marvin J. LeFrois, 94, a retired priest of the Diocese of Savannah died Friday, November 9 at a Hospice in Valdosta after a long illness.
A native of Greece, New York, Monsignor LeFrois was ordained a priest in Rochester, New York in 1949.
He began service in the Diocese of Savannah as an assistant pastor of Holy Family Church in Columbus, Georgia in 1951. His other assignments included assistant rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, pastor of St. Teresa Church in Albany, pastor of St. Anne Church in Columbus, pastor of St. Mary on the Hill Church in Augusta, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Warner Robins. He retired after serving as pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Valdosta in 1994. Father Marv had been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 69 years. He served as Faithful Friar for many years for Assembly 2022.
Although he was elevated to the position of domestic prelate with the title of Monsignor in 1966, he had a lifelong preference to be called “Father Marv.”
Monsignor LeFrois is survived by six nephews, Thomas Conrad, Richard Conrad, Bernard Conrad, James Conrad, Philip Conrad, Daniel Conrad, and one niece, Michelle Rowley all of the Rochester, New York area.
Three of his brothers, all of whom are deceased, also were ordained priests, including Father Chris LeFrois, who also served in the Diocese of Savannah. He was also preceded in death by a sister.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 11 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Valdosta. Evening Prayer for the Dead will begin at 7 p.m.
Bishop J. Kevin Boland will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 12 at St. John the Evangelist. A reception will be held afterwards at St. John the Evangelist Parish Hall.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. followed by a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 16 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home on Hodgson Memorial Drive in Savannah.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 17 at the Catholic Cemetery in Savannah with Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv. presiding.
