Mittie Hayes Chitty

Mittie Hayes Chitty, 90, of Valdosta, died at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman on Sunday, May 28, 2006. Born in Adel, on October 18, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Lena R. Lipsey Hayes and Henry H. Hayes. Mrs. Chitty was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and cooking for her family and friends.

Survivors are her three children, Stephen A. Chitty, III, and his wife, Lee, R. Ray Chitty and his wife, Pat all of Valdosta and Gayle Chitty Jones and her husband, Bruce of Albany; six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; a sister, Edna Wilkes of Aiken, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Lillian Manganaro of Valdosta, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Chitty was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen A. Chitty, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to a favorite charity.
