Minnie Ruth Hunter

September 14, 1925 — March 21, 2013

Minnie Ruth Hunter, of Valdosta, died on March 21, 2013, at Langdale Hospice House. Mrs. Hunter was born in Umatilla, Florida, on September 14, 1925 to the late John Bunyan Lee and Anna Lee Tomlinson Lee. At age 5, Ruth's family moved to Cleveland, Tennessee where she lived with her family until she was grown.
Ruth graduated from the University of Chattanooga in 1945. She was an active member of Phi Mu Sorority and Christian campus activities. She worked as a Secretary during the summers of 1944-1945 for the U.S. Government at the Oak Ridge Manhattan Project until World War II was declared ended in August, 1945.
She was married to the late Trapnell Edenfield Hunter until his death in 1998. The Hunter's made their home in the Atlanta area for 42 years before retiring to Valdosta. Ruth was a homemaker and worked for 17 years in the Atlanta IRS Headquarters during tax seasons. A member of First Baptist Church in Valdosta, she was active in the Joy/Fidelis Sunday School Class, the Lou Demie Mein Circle, and Monday Bible Study and faithfully served as a Greeter at the Toombs Street entrance for many years. Ruth was also a former member of the Crescent Garden Center.
Survivors are a son and daughter in law, William Lee Hunter and Carol Jen Hunter of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; daughter and son in law, Ruth Ann Exum and Arthur Wayne Exum of Valdosta and granddaughter, Kara Ann Exum. Also surviving are a sister, Mary Helen Lee of Cleveland, Tennessee; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Robert F. Lee of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Tommy B. Lee and wife Mary Sue Lee of Marietta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher W. Exum and two brothers, Harry C. Lee and John B. Lee, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at four p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Mac Weaver will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Missions or to a charity of choice. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
