Mike G Hill

Mike G. Hill, 69, of Valdosta, passed away on May 17, 2017 as the result of an accident at his home. Mike was born in Dawson, GA on July 26, 1947 to the late Eli G. and Francis P. Hill. He grew up in Dawson and then came to Valdosta to attend Valdosta State College, now Valdosta State University. While a student at Valdosta State, Mike was the editor of the college literary publication and of the student newspaper, which he renamed The Spectator. He continued to write and was later employed by the Florida Times-Union and the Valdosta Daily Times as a columnist. Mike was renowned for his literary bent and for his wry sense of humor. He later transitioned to Real Estate and became a broker. He established the firm of Mike Hill Real Estate, Inc. More recently, he wrote a weekly Real Estate column for the Valdosta Daily Times. Mike was well known for his mastery of Real Estate issues. At the time of his death, he was serving on the Lowndes County Board of Assessors.
Mike is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Lockington Hill of Valdosta, his sister and brother in law, Jean Hill Highsmith and Steve Highsmith of Dawson; his brother and sister in law, Terry Hill, MD and Nancy Friedman, of Oakland, CA; his sister in law and her spouse, Nancy and Peter Rallis and his brother in law and his spouse, Michael and Tammy Lockington. It would be wrong to omit that he is also survived by his beloved dogs, Shelby and Scooter!
A memorial service for Mike will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. George Bennett will officiate. Later on the family will go down to the Suwannee River, where it was Mikes wish for his cremains to be scattered "preferably from a leaky pontoon boat and on a rainy day…" In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lowndes County Animal Shelter at 337 Gil Harbin Industrial Blvd, Valdosta, GA 31601.
