Michael Wayne Powell

Michael Wayne Powell, 38, of Valdosta, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 23, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center.

He was born December 10, 1974 in Fort Pierce, FL, a son of the late Preston and Pat Smith Powell. Mike loved his job and going to work every day for A-LERT Construction Services, and was loved by the people he worked with.

"Most of us knew him as "Red Rooter" back in the day. Others knew him as that hog hunting brother and that guy who loves to fish. Then there is us who knew him as family. Our heart aches for Lisa Ann Powell who has lost the love of her life and our heart aches for the brother and best friend we lost. God owes us no explanation, but He has a purpose somewhere in all this grief. We know Mike is reunited with his family in heaven, but he will still be missed here. Rest in peace brother – 1974-2013"

In addition to his wife, Lisa of Valdosta, Mike is survived by five children, Charity Powell of palm Bay, FL, Preston Powell of Valdosta, Christopher Chandler and wife Pixie of Ocala, FL, Dustin Chandler and Matthew McGee, both of Valdosta; one granddaughter, Lily Chandler of Ocala, FL; two brothers, Robert Allen Powell of Okeechobee, FL, and Shawn Emory Powell and wife Jodi of Madison, FL; one sister, Katie Adel Hamner and husband Quinton of Port St. Lucie, FL; a special sister-in-law, April Symington of Sebring, FL; fourteen nieces and nephews, Sarah, Chase, Aaron, Gauge, LeeAnn, Austin, Dylan, Sierra, Blatin, Zander, Mattie, Dalton, little Michael and Aubrey. In addition to his parents, Preston (Pop-pop) Powell and Pat (Granny) Powell, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Quinton Hamner, Jr.

Funeral Services for Mike will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, 2215 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, GA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.
