Michael Synyard

January 12, 1947 — November 18, 2007

Michael Synyard, 60, of Valdosta died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born in Rochester, NY on January 12, 1947 to the late Tom and Myrtle Kenney Synyard. He graduated from Murphy High School where he was the 1964 4A Mile Run State Champion in Track, and he attended Texas A&M from 1965-1967 on a full Track scholarship. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1967, then graduated from Officer’s Candidate School in 1969 and served in the Vietnam Conflict as Commander of a Special Forces A-Team. He graduated from University of South Alabama in 1973 with a BSE in Chemical Engineering and went to work in the paper industry. In 1992 he married Jeani Blocksom of Pine Bluff, AR. He was an avid sportsman who especially enjoyed bird hunting and bass fishing. Mr. Synyard was the manager of PCA Mill and was a member of the corporate team. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jeani Blocksom Synyard of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Julie Synyard of Berkley, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Philip Mount of Hattiesburg, MS; stepsons and their spouses, Tommy and Sonya Palmer of Pine Bluff, AR, USAF Capt. Jody and Amy Palmer of San Antonio, TX, Lance Simmons of Pine Bluff, AR, Dane McCurdy of Savannah, TN; five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Christ Episcopal Church with Father Peter Ingeman officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Langdale Hospice House or Christ Episcopal Church. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
