Melba R. Babcock, 86, of Valdosta died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the Langdale Place. She was born on November 17, 1921 in Randolph County, Illinois to the late Elmer Guy Rigdon and Katie Mearns Rigdon. Mrs. Babcock was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as treasurer of the Sallie Lou Cranford Sunday School Class and volunteered with the Break Bread Program. She was affiliated with the South Georgia Medical Center Auxilliary for forty two years and enjoyed playing bridge at Langdale Place.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons in law, Sandra Lynn and Everett Moore of Jacksonville, Fla., Judith Ann and Mike Hurley of Pensacola, Fla. and Jill Marie McElvey of Valdosta, one son and daughter in law, David Edmond and Caroline Babcock of Valdosta, seven grandchildren, Richard Simpson, Jeff (Jody) Moore, Angie Moore, Dutch McElvey and his fiance’ Anna Spikes, Chanyn (Greg) Griffis, Jonathan Babcock and Wesley Babcock, three great grandchildren, Madison Babcock, Dalton Moore and Christopher Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Edmond Babcock.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, December 1, 2007 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Dawes Thomson and Rev. John Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
