Melba Boyette Alderman

Melba Boyette Alderman, 89, of Valdosta and Presbyterian Home in Quitman, Georgia formerly of Adel, Georgia and Dallas, Texas died Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Presbyterian Home. Mrs. Alderman was born in Adel on January 26, 1930 to the late Lossie L., Sr. and Estelle Coppage Boyette. She attended Georgia State College for Women and the University of Georgia, continued her education and earned a Master’s of Education Degree from Texas Women’s University of Denton, Texas. She taught at various schools; Lone Star School in Cook County, Fulton County and Dallas, Texas where she taught at John S. Armstrong in the Highland Park Independent School District for thirty five years retiring in 1990.
She was married to the late James C. Alderman for forty five years, who was the owner and president of “Office Furniture of Dallas.” Mrs. Alderman was a member of Northside Baptist Church, Valdosta, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her husband, James C. (J.C.) Alderman; her daughters, Kaye A. Thompson and Carla A. Declamp; her brother, Lossie L. Boyette, Jr.; her nieces, Julie Wetherington Bush and Pat B. Germundsen, Lynn Gibbs, and her nephew, Mike Boyette.
Survivors include her sister and brother in law, Mary Boyette Swindell and Paul Swindell of Valdosta; her devoted nephew, Jeffry S. Wetherington who has been a caregiver for his Aunt by enhancing her life these last few years with music, devotions, laughter and making memories; three great nieces, Grace Wetherington, Rhiannon Bush, Gina Turley and a great nephew, Zach Wetherington; her sister in law, Lonita Hutchinson and great niece, Shelly Stone.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm, Thursday, September 12, 2019 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Mrs. Alderman desired to be cremated and cremains to be buried in the family plot at Woodlawn City Cemetery in Adel immediately following the memorial service. The family will receive friends from 12pm-1pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the Northside Baptist Church Building Our Legacy Fund, 200 E.
