Mary Jean Bourquin Thornton

Mary Jean Bourquin Thornton, 82, of Barney, Georgia died unexpectedly on July 25, 2020 of natural causes at her residence in Barney. She was born on October 26, 1937 in Morven, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hardy F. Bourquin Sr., Avalon Lewis Bourquin. Siblings, Hardy F. Bourquine Jr., Bobby R. Bourquine, Eleanor Bourquin Williams. Her son, Edwin D. Thornton.
She was a faithful lifetime member of Barney First Baptist Church and served as a song leader for many years. She served God and others by practicing nursing for many years as well as being a beautician on the side. She compassionately nursed her father and mother at their residence until they were called to their eternal home. Mary enjoyed singing, making jams and jellies for her friends and family. She was a master daylily gardener.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Teresa Cardin (Hall) in Moultrie, GA; Alvin Thornton in Dickinson, ND and Edwin Thornton deceased/surviving wife (Kelly).
Mary also leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Martin Cardin (Selina), Cheryl Cardin Boyette (Robbie), Jeanette Irvine (Patrick), DaLee Moorehead (Jack), Angie L’herault (Matt), LaRie Thornton, Sidney King (Shane). 9 great-grandchildren: Twins- Landen Cardin and Conner Cardin, Nathaniel Irvine, Charisma Irvine, Miya Cardin, Ayden Thornton, Olivia L’herault, Cullen Moorehead, Layla Thornton, Ashton L’herault, Braylen Boyette, and Conor Moorehead, and two sisters in law, Faye Bourquine and Regine Bourquine Ruiz.
She will be missed by many including her nieces and nephews that will miss her laughter but will never forget her joy! She was loved by many in her community including her wonderful and caring neighbors. May she rest in peace with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31 at Campground Cemetery in Morven, GA. The service will be officiated by her loving nephew Pastor Stacy Bourquine.
