Mary Emily Husbands Zipperer

March 5, 1926 — December 20, 2016

Mary Emily Husbands Zipperer, 90, of Valdosta, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Langdale Place. Mrs. Zipperer was born on March 5, 1926 at her family's home, on the Old Clyattville Road, to the late Lewis Flynn & Florence Dees Husbands. The home she was born in was a home she would continue to live in almost all of her life. She grew up in the Clyattville area and graduated from Clyattville High School. Following high school, she went to work at Churchwell's Department Store in downtown Valdosta. It was during these days that she met a young airman, who was stationed at Spence Field in Moultrie at the beginning of World War II. This young man was also a local boy from Lake Park, John Kyle Zipperer. They soon began dating and were married in 1943 and were married for 49 years prior to his death in 1992. Mrs. Zipperer worked for Georgia Power Company for more than 30 years. She began in early 1952's as a secretary and retired as the Human Resources Director for this district in late 1980's. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and formerly a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Zipperer was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Mary Sue & Tyson McLane of Lake Park, a daughter in law, Dolores Brogdon Zipperer of Valdosta; six grandchildren and their spouses, Britt & Kristin McLane, Millie & Michael Sopt, all of Valdosta, Kyle & Maya McLane of Kiev, Ukraine, Mandy & Elliot Jackson of Decatur, Flynn & Brian Pinkston of Charlottesville, VA, and Emily & Chris Sandoval of Valdosta. Also surviving are eighteen great grandchildren and numerous cousins and other relatives. The family is also deeply grateful for the devoted care she received from Sandy Hart. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Zipperer, Sr. and her son, John Kyle "Butch" Zipperer, Jr.

The funeral for Mrs. Zipperer will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Charles Adams will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday afternoon from 3 p.m. until service time.
