Mary Elizabeth Phillips Newsome, 79, of Valdosta passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. She was born on December 7, 1938, in Lakeland, GA to the late Barney and Rudell Knox Phillips. Mrs. Newsome was a homemaker. She served the Lord and her church. She attended New Seasons Church of God. She loved her family and friends. Mrs. Newsome enjoyed working in the yard and will be remembered for her quick sense of humor.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Billy McNeal of Leesburg, Barbara Smith of Valdosta, Penny and Johnny Justice of Lake Park; sisters Jackie Glass and Joann Farmer both of Valdosta; sister-in-law Mary Jo Phillips of Valdosta; eight grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, SSGT Curtis W. Newsome (U.S. Army); son, Barney Newsome; brother, Pete Phillips; brother and sister-in-law, W.J. and Sue Phillips; son-in-law, Edgar Smith; and brothers-in-law, Smokey Farmer and John D. Glass.
Funeral services for Mrs. Newsome will be held at 10am on Friday, May 4, 2018 at New Seasons Church of God with Reverend Jason Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Fender Cemetery in Lakeland, GA. Family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
