Martha Jean Mangum Carter

Martha Jean Mangum Carter, 74, of Quitman died Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Valdosta at Little Griffin Hospital on August 14, 1941 to the late George Samuel Wilson Mangum, Sr. and Marilyn Caldwell Mangum and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Morven Church of God and a retired convenience store manager. She enjoyed crafts, cooking and knitting.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy H. Carter of Quitman; her son, Paul Yale of Durham, NC; sister and brother in law, Lynn and Marshall Harper of Valdosta; her brother, Sam Mangum of Moultrie; stepdaughters and stepsons in law, Debbie and Shane Chastain of Murrayville, GA, Lisa and Chad Gibson of Dawsonville, GA; grandchildren, Taylor Chastain, Macee Chastain, Lauren Gibson and Catherine Gibson; her aunt, Shirley Abercrombie of Valdosta; nieces and nephews, Kevin Harper of Seattle WA, Angela and Mark VanNortwick, Joel and Mary Harper all of Valdosta, Katie and Michael Bain of Alpharetta, Keith Mangum of Charlotte, NC; her great nieces and great nephews, Aubree VanNortwick, Ryan VanNortwick, Lily Harper, Noah Murphree, Jackson Bain, Matthew Bain and Leah Bain. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Steve Mangum.
Graveside services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Pastor Clarence Rolling officiating.
