Marshall Parks

July 16, 1928 — April 25, 2010

Dr. Marshall Parks, 81, a life long resident of Valdosta, died Sunday April 25, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA. He was born on July 16, 1928, son of the late Marshall McCurry, Sr. and Maude Parks. As a boy growing up in Lowndes County he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Dr. Parks received his Dental Degree, having attended the Emory campuses in Valdosta, Oxford and Atlanta. During dental school he met and married the former Barbara Helen Burton of Americus. Following school they returned to Valdosta where Dr. Parks joined his father�s dental practice. He worked for 45 years as a dentist, was a former Board Member of the First Federal Savings and Loan and a member of the American Dental Association and the Valdosta Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed snow skiing, canoeing, and loved the arts and was a member of the R.O.M.E.O. Group. Dr. Parks was a devoted husband and caregiver to his wife of 58 years. He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, serving as a vestryman at Christ Church and served on the Haiti Mission Trip.

Dr. Parks is survived by his wife, Barbara Parks, two sons, Marshall (Mac) Parks III of Valdosta, William (Bill) Parks of Brunswick, one daughter, Keven Parks of Valdosta, three grandchildren, Courtney Parks and Dylan Whiddon both of Valdosta and Cason Parks of Canton, as well as one great grandchild, Lilly Parks of Hinesville. He is also survived by a sister, Rachael Wainer of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Parks was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Wirick.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church. The Reverend Peter Ingeman and the Reverend Tar Drazdowski will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Tuesday April 27, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
