Marjorie Webb Dees

Marjorie Webb Dees, 85, of Valdosta, died suddenly at her residence on Friday, January 2, 2015. Born in Berrien County to the late Hamer W. and Addie Blanton Webb, the family soon moved to town where she attended Valdosta City Schools and graduated as an honor graduate from Valdosta High School in 1946. In the 1950's, Mrs. Dees worked for the well-known pediatrician, Dr. Alton Johnson. She then began a career in retail sales of ladies clothing for such names as Talbots, Harve' Bernard and Jones of New York. Most recently she worked with South Georgia Medical Center in Patient Information. Mrs. Dees was a member of the Literary Guild, the Readers Review and was a faithful member of the Joy Sunday School Class at her church, First Baptist Church. Truly, Mrs. Dees loved the Lord, was a selfless person and was a devoted mother and caretaker.

Survivors include her son, Sammy Dees of Valdosta; two sisters and a brother in law, Sylvia Webb Becton of Anniston, AL, and Mary Jane & Phillip Davis of Valdosta; four sisters in law, Iris Webb of Valdosta, Dorothy Beggs of Lake Park, Marion Copeland and Miriam Fletcher, both of Valdosta; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carnett (Sam) Dees, and a brother, Ponder Webb.

A funeral for Mrs. Dees will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2015 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Mack Weaver and Pastor Chuck Owens will officiate. Burial will follow at a later time at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the G to G Family Life Center fund at First Baptist Church.
