Marie S. Burns

Marie S. Burns, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Lakehaven Nursing Home. A native of Brooks County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Jesse J. Sr. and Keziah (Kizzie) Touchton Shiver. Widow of the late Dr. D. L. Burns, Mrs. Burns was a Registered Nurse, an attorney and an author. Formerly a member of Christ Episcopal Church she was affiliated with St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Survivors are several nieces and nephews, including, Sharon and Mike Watson of Massachusetts, Elaine and Joe Dawkins of Valdosta, Dee Smith of Atlanta, Dr. Michael Shiver of Athens, and Commander Hugh McLaurin III of Griffin; special friends, Gloria and Jody Evans and family, of Valdosta and stepchildren, Bobbie Ann Pitts Mitchell of Valdosta and Dr. Lloyd Burns of Peachtree City.

Graveside services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the graveside at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Reverend Dan O'Connell will officiate. Carson McLane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
