Maggie Lee Flowers

October 12, 1921 — September 26, 2015

Maggie Lee Flowers, 93, of Quitman, died on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at her daughter's residence following a brief illness. She was born on October 21, 1921 in Pelham, Georgia to the late Francis Marion and Susan Marlow Hampton Meads. Mrs. Flowers was employed for 43 years as a seamstress with the Levi Strauss Company and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Flowers was indeed a character and when she met someone, that person never forgot her. She was the epitome of determination, and sought to make sure her family was taken care of. She had a big heart and never turned any one away who was in need. Outside of working and her family, her other passion was her garden and she worked tirelessly to grow the best of anything she planted. Mrs. Flowers was a member of ACTWU #714.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John David II and Gloria Flowers of Orlando, Florida; two daughters, Thelma Louise Burchett of Morven and LaVerne Goldwire of Dixie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Edward I and Betty Flowers of Waycross and Marrion Riley and Kathy Flowers of Quitman; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Romine of Lake City, Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, F.M., Jr. and Janet Meads of Fairfax, Virginia; a special friend, Ruth Dugger of Maryville, Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John David Flowers I.

Services for Maggie Lee Flowers will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Flowers officiating. The burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
