Lynette Maxwell Downing

Carolyn Lynette Downing, 78, died peacefully at her home in Hahira on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. She was born on August 20, 1933 in Barney to the late William A. and Coma Lee Maxwell and has been a lifetime resident of this area. She is the wife of the late June E. Downing. Lynette graduated from Valdosta High School, attended nursing school at Chandler General Hospital in Savannah and later became a certified medical technologist. She worked for many years at Smith Hospital in Hahira and retired from Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, GA. Mrs. Downing was an active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was well known to her many friends for her generosity and kindness to others. She will be sorely missed by those who were blessed to have known her.

She is survived by her children; one son and daughter in law, Billy and Mindell Downing of Hahira, three daughters and sons in law, Patty and Jesse Barnes of Savannah, GA., Sandy and Larry Glasson of Raleigh, NC., Suzanne and Wesley Kilgore of Loganville, GA., three grandchildren, Byron Thornton, Kelli Downing and Jessica Davis, three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by son, Johnny Downing and her only sister, Sue Martin.

Graveside services will be held at 11am, Friday, April 20, 2012 at Campground Cemetery in Morven with the Rev. Carl Howard and Rev. Jack Atkinson officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6-8pm at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, P. O.
