Lewis Ray Bennett

September 27, 1937 — June 9, 2010

Lewis Ray Bennett, 72, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Born on September 27, 1937, he was the son of the late James Jasper Bennett, Sr., and Isley Ora Everett Bennett. A graduate of Homerville High School, Mr. Bennett attended the University of Georgia as well as Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and made a career of lifetime service to the City of Valdosta. A Valdosta City Policeman for several years, Mr. Bennett was one of the first policemen on the original Motor Cycle Squad. He was employed by the City of Valdosta Engineering Department and retired as Director of Streets and Sanitation. Mr. Bennett was a Mason of the Azalea City Lodge and an ordained Deacon and member of Greenwood Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Peggy Love Bennett of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Rayette Bennett Brinson and Robert Randolph �Randy� Brinson of Montgomery, Alabama; Jeana Bennett Seemann and Brian Jon Seemann of Valdosta; grandchildren, Christopher Bennett Brinson, Daniel Randolph Brinson, Philip Ryan Brinson all of Montgomery, Alabama, LaRae Love Seeman of Valdosta; sister, Delores Bennett Raulerson of Statenville, sister and brother-in-law, Mary Bennett Warren and Quinton Warren of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Bennett Taylor and a brother, James Jasper Bennett, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Baptist Church. Pastor Michael Bass will officiate. Burial will follow at Empire Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 � 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Greenwood Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Bennett.
