Larry Dewayne Dorminey

October 4, 1953 — January 13, 2021

Larry Dewayne Dorminey, 67, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. Larry was born on October 4, 1953 in Valdosta to Clifford Arthur and Martha Annette Mitchell Dorminey. Larry was a compassionate man with a smile that could light a room. His laugh was a one of a kind you could pick him out of a crowd, he loved his wife and children and extended family. He never met a stranger, he overly enjoyed conversation and he was always willing to lend a helping hand never expecting anything in return. He believed that the act of kindness done for others would always be returned when you needed it the most. He was there any time day or night when you needed him all you had to do was call and he would answer with “Larry’s,” sometimes people would call just to talk or get his advice for during his lifetime he had learned many lessons that had shaped him into the man he had become. He was a firm believer that you had to work hard for what you wanted in life for it was not just handed to you. His hands had cuts and grease that wouldn’t wash away from all the years of hard work and dedication to provide for his family and community. There was one thing that could be felt in those hands of his and that was the tenderness by the warmth of his touch when you would shake his hand his heart was full of giving. He loved his Lord, every radio he played was tuned into 810am, solid gospel, where he would hum his tune while covering many many miles across this little town and surrounding areas. At night you would hear his laughter that was so contagious as he sat and rested, watching his favorite show “Hee-Haw”, and drinking coffee. People like Larry are few and far between anymore, but his memory will live on by all his good deeds, and his favors will now be returned.

Larry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Charlene Dorminey, of Valdosta, his three daughters, Charlotte Wisenbaker, Evelyn Renee (Justin) Fielding, both of Valdosta, Chelsee Burke, of Douglas, GA, his two grandchildren, Timothy Gage Fielding, and McKinsley Annette Fielding, both of Valdosta, his sister Jackie (Dave) Tribout, of St. Louis, MO.
