Lamar Kendall Altman

January 18, 1918 — September 28, 2013

Lamar Kendall Altman, 95, of Valdosta, died on September 28, 2013 at Langdale Hospice House. A native Valdostan, daughter of the late Clyde Bolton and William Pinckney Kendall, she was a graduate of Valdosta High School and Georgia States Women's College, now Valdosta State University. After receiving her teaching degree, she began her teaching career in the Echols County School System, then went on to teach in the Hahira public schools where she coached basketball. Her final years were at Sallas Mahone before she decided to become a full time homemaker. She was very proud to be a (the oldest surviving) Charter Member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was actively involved in many programs in the church, including teaching Sunday School. Mrs. Altman loved opening her home to all and sharing her stories of Old Valdosta with anyone and everyone!

Mrs. Altman was preceded in death by her husband Walter G. Altman, Jr., a son Lamar Kendall Altman, a daughter in law, Jackie Altman, a grandson Ronald Lee Pitcock, Jr. and two brothers, Lt. William Pinckney Kendall, and Samuel Riley Kendall and two sisters, Clyde Kendall Lester and Vanelle Kendall Anderson.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter in law, Walter G. Altman, III, and Bill & Jennifer Altman, all of Valdosta; a daughter and son in law, Jadan Altman & Ronnie Pitcock of Valdosta and a daughter in law, Mary Beth Altman of Valdosta; seven grandchildren, Walter (Susie) Altman IV, Dan Altman, Allison (John) Prairie, Eleanor Altman, Leslie (Jim) McAllister, Ken (Brooke) Altman, Pinckney (Phillip) McGhin, all of Valdosta and a granddaughter in law, Danielle Pitcock of Valdosta. Also surviving are 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held for Mrs. Altman at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Rev. Hale Bishop and Rev. David Tart will officiate. Burial will occur at a later time at Beaver Dam Cemetery in Ray City. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10 until 11 a.m. on Monday.
