Laverne Clayton Simmons

Elizabeth LaVerne Clayton Simmons, 80, of Francis Lake, died on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at her home. Born in Echols County, Georgia on October 4, 1934, LaVerne was the daughter of the late Daniel Wilson Clayton and Johnnie Clara Hale Clayton and a graduate of the Echols County High Class of 1952. She was an active member of the Lake Park United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir, participated in Pathfinders and was a member of the Seeker's Sunday School Class. She was self-employed in childcare.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-seven years, Norwood Simmons of Lake Park; a son, Andrew Simmons of Echols County; grandchildren, Kimberly Welch of Frederick, Maryland, Donna and Trevor Jackson of Hagerstown, Maryland, Elizabeth and Steve Dukes, Vanessa Hobbs, and Leah Simmons of Frederick, Maryland, Kevin and Jennifer Simmons of Charlestown, West Virginia; Paige Bready of Wheaton, Maryland; seven great grandchildren; a grand-pup, Zeke; sisters, Willa Dean Howell of Echols County, Louise Connell of Brunswick; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sons, George Nelson Simmons and Gary Nelson Simmons, and a brother, Eugene Clayton.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014, at two p.m. at Lake Park United Methodist Church. Reverend Alex Tracey and Reverend Isaac Salgado will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park.
